Dilation and curettage (D&C) abortion is widening the cervix using a dilator such hegar dilators and removing the uterus ling by scraping and scooping using a metal rode with a handle cone one end and a sharp loop on the other (curette). The procedure is usually performed in the first trimester of a pregnancy.
